If you are like me, which is to say you are a snobby person living on a budget, you buy a lot of your food at Trader Joe’s. After several years of pretty consistent TJ’s shopping, I consider myself an expert. I certainly know which TJ’s products I find amazing, and which ones are fucking bullshit.
Trader Joe’s Cheese Sticks: Oh my god, these are so good. They basically taste like slightly heavier, deep fried croissant twists with cheese baked inside. I hate to use the word “buttery” but these are pretty buttery. You probably get 12 twists in a box, but whatever. Everything at TJ’s is $4.49 so I don’t even want to hear it.
Trader Joe’s Blueberry Raspberry Oat Bran Muffins: While this blogger loved them, I was appalled at how much a muffin can suck. It takes a lot for me to avoid eating a baked good. Usually it’s quite the opposite. But after suffering through one of these, the rest were left to languish until I threw them out. I THREW OUT MUFFINS. That’s how bad they were. These muffins are bullshit.
Trader Joe’s Blondie Mix: Just add an egg and melted butter and you have a shitty blondie! I love a blondie even more than a brownie. And considering that my neighborhood TJ’s had only one box of this inexpensive mix left, I grabbed it. It must be good if I’m getting the last one. Alas, either the directions or the mix itself are bullshit. I used the 8×8 pan, and the blondes were about as thin as Kindle. (I had to look around the room for a comparison.) I also baked them for 1 minute short of the 28 minute suggested baking time. I had rock hard kindles. So maybe if you cook them in a loaf pan and for like, 15 minutes, these might be good. I was disappointed. (I also ate them all anyway, but was pissed off about it.)
I’ll stop at three products today. Shall we continue to discuss Trader Joe’s here at SND? Which are your favorites? Which products do you hate? I’m open to recommendations!
